Founded in 1792, the White House is the official residence where the President of the United States and the first family live and work, and one of the national symbols of the United States. The White House site was chosen by President George Washington, but the first president to live in the presidential palace was John Adams. Surprisingly, the building of the presidential palace was originally grey and turned white when the reconstruction was complete in 1817.
In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt designated the official name of the presidential palace—the White House.
How to Draw the White House Step by Step
Step 1 Draw the top of the White House
First draw an upside-down trapezoid, this trapezoid should be an isosceles trapezoid. Then draw some horizontal lines inside this trapezoid.
Draw a vertical bisector of this trapezoid as a guideline, don't make it too obvious. Then take a point on this line.
Draw two symmetrical lines from this point towards the top edge of that trapezoid, resulting in a sharp corner.
You can try replacing the sharp corner with a flag. It's not hard to do, is it?
Step 2 Draw the roof of the White House
Draw an arc line at the bottom of that upside-down rectangle. Both ends of it should be on the same level.
You can do it with the help of a round object like a coin. Of course, a compass would also be helpful.
Draw a horizontal line at the bottom of this arc. Then draw two lines perpendicular to it, of the same length, from both ends of this line.
Add some smooth curves between that arc line and the horizontal line. You can do the middle curves first and then the sides in turn.
Step 3 Draw the third floor of the White House
In the previous step, we drew two short lines down from the ends of that horizontal line. Now draw a horizontal line connecting their bottom ends, resulting in a rectangle.
Draw a straight line from the left end of this new horizontal line towards the lower left. Then draw a straight line from its right end towards the bottom right. The two lines are symmetrical.
Draw a thin rectangle at the bottom of those two slashes. This gives the outline of the third floor of the White House.
On this floor draw four symmetrical windows, each in the shape of an upside-down "U". They are the same size.
Step 4 Draw the second floor of the White House
A slender rectangle is also drawn directly below the finished third floor of the White House. Its width is slightly narrower than the rectangle above it.
Add some vertical lines between these two adjacent elongated rectangles. First draw the outermost two lines to get the outline of the second floor.
Then take every two adjacent lines as a group, and draw a total of eight groups, that is, eight pillars.
The overall arrangement of these pillars is symmetrical. You can mark the two ends of each line first, and then connect them with the help of a ruler.
Step 5 Draw the sides of the main building of the White House
Let's first look at the left edge of the second floor of the White House. Draw two horizontal lines of the same length on its left and connect their left ends, resulting in a horizontal rectangle.
From the bottom of this horizontal rectangle, draw a long line down perpendicular to its bottom edge.
Between this vertical line and the left edge of the second floor of the White House, draw a small rectangle centered as a window. Then draw another one just below it.
In a similar way, draw the right side of the main building. The sides of the main building are symmetrical.
Step 6 Draw the first floor of the White House
Draw a horizontal line just below the slender rectangle we drew in step 4. It should be longer than the bottom edge of that slender rectangle.
Now let's look at the bottom edge of that slender rectangle. Draw two lines perpendicular to it near its left end, and draw a small rectangle at the bottom of them. The same goes for its right end, resulting in two pillars.
Draw four doors between these two pillars. Each door is also an upside-down "U" shape, the same size.
Draw a line from the left end of that horizontal line toward the lower left. Then draw a horizontal line from left to right to connect to its bottom. The same goes for the right end.
Step 7 Draw the annex on the left side of the White House
On the left side of the main building of the White House, draw a wavy line from top left to bottom right as woods.
Then draw a horizontal line from this wavy line to the right. You need to pay attention to the relative position of this horizontal line.
Draw four rectangles of the same size below this horizontal line. The leftmost rectangle overlaps the woods.
Finally, above that horizontal line, draw a cloud with wavy lines.
Step 8 Draw the annex on the right side of the White House
In a similar way to the previous step, draw the annex on the right side of the main building of the White House, along with the woods and a cloud.
By looking at the annexes on both sides, you can see that they are symmetrical. You should pay attention to this during the drawing process of this step.
